The Veteran Games and Conference will take place in Israel
on 29th May – 3rd June 2022.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The inaugural Veteran Games and Conference in 2019 brought together over 100 UK and Israeli military veterans and family members for five days of sporting competition, round table discussions and social and cultural activities at our Beit Halochem centres in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. This programme was specifically designed to be inclusive and, through a range of collaborative activities and events, provided the veterans and their families with the opportunity to share common experiences.
The programme enabled the veterans, participating veteran organisations and academics to learn about how the two countries care for their wounded veterans. The pioneering initiative highlighted the positive effect of sport in supporting recovery, providing renewed focus and a sense of purpose.
UK-ISRAEL ROUND TABLE ON MENTAL HEALTH, PTSD AND RECOVERY IN RELATON TO MILITARY VETERANS
Alongside The Veteran Conference, the first UK-Israel round table military veteran mental health took place at Beit Halochem. The conference brought together leading experts, practitioners and researchers from the UK and Israel to discuss mental health, PTSD and recovery amongst military veterans.
This year, joined by their families, 65 British veterans will travel to Israel and will spend a duration of five days competing in a variety of sports, while learning how their respective countries provide care for those injured in combat. They will also travel to the Dead Sea, visit the British war memorial at Ramleh cemetery and tour around Jerusalem. This will give them the opportunity to spend time with their families whilst providing them with a unique insight into Israel’s rich culture and history.
