Competitive Sports
Competitive sports offer far more than individual challenges to injured persons; they serve as a great source of pride for both the State of Israel and the wider disabled community. Beyond the personal fulfillment that comes from engaging in competitive sports, they also offer substantial rehabilitative benefits. Through competition, disabled veterans are empowered to rise above their limitations and face the challenges of their new circumstances with greater resilience and determination. This aids in their physical rehabilitation and boosts their mental and emotional strength.
Sports include Wheelchair Basketball, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Tennis , Fencing, Volleyball, Goal Ball (the only team sport for blind). In addition Hand bikes are available for veterans who don’t have use of their lower limbs), while Tandem bikes enable the blind or for those who cannot pedal and cycle on their own to enjoy cycling too.
For both standing and wheelchair bound veterans archery is a sport of physical and mental strength. At Beit Halochem they train with the best coaches in the country, themselves former champions in the field and have represented Israel in the Paralympic Games. Fully electronic Olympic ranges are found at the Beit Halochem centers, using air rifles and air pistols both free standing, wheelchair bound veterans and blind disabled veterans can shoot.
