Recreational Activities
Beit Halochem encourages members and their families to participate in a diverse array of creative clubs and classes.
These include photography, ceramics, painting, and sculpture, music, and language learning, among others. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by the partners of disabled veterans, this programming provides a much-needed respite from daily responsibilities. While disabled members participate in sports or therapy sessions, their partners have the opportunity to explore numerous classes, fostering personal growth and community connection.
Young Veterans Club
One of the Beit Halochem’s highest priorities is to provide support and encouragement to its youngest members by offering them a variety of programs. These include such activities as the wall climbing club, scuba diving courses, paintball outings, Jeep outings, special events for partners and spouses, extreme sports including SUP, rappelling and rock climbing. Social events and parties featuring stand-up comedians, live music performances, are examples of these programs tailored especially for the benefit of the young veterans. Bringing together the young veterans from all parts of the country creates a bond and a camaraderie so vital to their rehabilitation.
Dancing and Singing
Each Beit Halochem has at least one dance troupe. These are led by professional choreographers.
The dance troupes are composed of men and women dancers in wheelchairs paired up with standing partners who volunteer their time to dance with the wheelchair dancers. It’s a true manifestation of the dream to dance and the victory of mind and spirit over the body.
The troupe’s program includes a rich repertoire of song, dance and stage performance including Israeli and International Folk dances, Latino and Ballroom dancing and colorful costumes to match them. There are also several couples of professional Ballroom and Latino dancerswho perform and compete throughout the world in the circuit of international competitions bringing medals and great pride to Beit Halochem and Israel. Each Beit Halochem also has a singing troupe.
They perform regularly at national Remembrance Day ceremonies and represent Beit Halochem at national choir festivals. They also travel to Europe and represent Israel and the Beit Halochem in international choir festivals.
Recreational Activities
The Bridge and Chess clubs at the Beit Halochem Centers are particularly active and their participants take part in various league competitions.
A lot of action takes place at the Billiards/Snooker Hall, especially in view of the great impact this particular activity has for people who have suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and prefer an activity that is done in a quiet environment without the pressures of team sports and competition. It also forces them to focus which is something they find difficult to do.
Leisure Activities
Members can fill their leisure hours at Beit Halochem with a wide array of enrichment programs through cultural activities and art.
Plays, concerts and films are shown at the auditoriums, lectures are held on a diversity of subjects. Art exhibits are held displaying members’ works.
