After a 3 year absence the It’s A Knockout extravaganza returned with a bang. Held at Queens’ School in Bushey, the event brought together 700 pupils from schools including UCS, Haberdashers’, Hasmonean, JFS, Highgate, City of London, Channing, Immanuel, Yavneh, JCOSS, Rosh Pinah, Sinai and Mathilda Marks.
As well as the games, there were arts and crafts activities, a bouncy castle and face painting, plus hot and cold food provided by Habiba’s Deli.
Over £30,000 was raised to purchase specially adapted wheelchairs for the Tel Aviv Beit Halochem Basketball Wheelchair Team. One of the recipients was 51 year old, father of three, Dotan Meishar who served in the Israeli Naval Commando unit. Dotan was severely injured in a battle with a terrorist group and as a result he lost his leg. With the help of the professional staff at Beit Halochem, Dotan was introduced to wheelchair basketball and in 2008 Dotan was chosen to join the Israeli Paralympic team in Beijing.
A special thanks goes to the event organisers, Andrew Alexander and Sally Ann Thwaites as well as all the volunteers for their time and hard work.
