Liam Spilman was critically wounded in November 2023 by a Hezbollah UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) on the northern border. Liam is a qualified fitness instructor and was working in Africa on October 7th so despite not receiving a request, he asked to enlist to serve his country once again. Liam was based near Kibbutz Yiftach, responsible for twenty combatants.

Liam’s legs were critically wounded, his main artery in his right leg was torn, and his spine suffered multiple injuries. On landing at Ziv Hospital in Safed, the medical team had considered Liam unlikely to survive. Miraculously, the hospital were able to consult with a senior vascular specialist who happened to be nearby who was able to save Liam’s life and also prevent his leg from being amputated. Liam was unconscious for ten days and spent one month in intensive care.

Liam goes to Beit Halochem Tel Aviv for daily rehabilitation and has become an ambassador, travelling worldwide to spread awareness and share his incredible story. He credits Beit Halochem with not only assisting his physical health but improving his mental health in the weeks immediately following his injury.
