Zahal Disabled Veterans Organisation (ZDVO)

“Zahal Disabled Veterans Organisation” was established in the wake of the War of Independence (1949), with the purpose of assisting its 3,400 war disabled from this war requiring rehabilitation following their injuries.

Continuously ever since, Israel’s reality was laced with war and unrelenting struggle for independence and security. Sadly, disabled veterans carry the scars of these years in their bodies and souls.

Since that time thousands of new members who were wounded during their active or reserve services joined the Organisation’s ranks and today the total number of war disabled in Israel reaches 54,000. Today, as always, they are the heart and soul of our Organisation.

In the last ten years, due to terror attacks, civilians found themselves standing in the front line and injured side by side with soldiers. Due to this new situation, Z.D.V.O. took upon itself to care for this population. Today civilians and victims of terror can become equal members of one of the four Beit Halochem centres.

Zahal Disabled Veterans Fund (ZDVF)

Supporting the disabled veterans during the process of rehabilitation is one of the highest priorities of Israeli society. The State of Israel, operating within the Ministry of Defence’s budget, contributes to the coverage of medical care, compensation and housing. However, a complete physical, mental and social rehabilitation that is necessary for the success of this lengthy process is beyond their capabilities.

The set up of such a rehabilitation framework and its operation, was made possible by Zahal Disabled Veterans Fund, the Financial arm of Zahal Disabled Veterans Organisation, whose responsibility has been to raise the necessary funds for the construction of the Beit Halochem centres.
